iTero is a state-of-the-art orthodontic technology that allows Dr. Lili and our associates to provide braces and other orthodontic treatment with heightened efficiency and increased comfort.
The traditional way of making orthodontic impressions involves the use of a liquid plaster product (dental alginate) for making a mold of the teeth and gums. In order to do this, metal or plastic plates are placed in the mouth on the insides of both the upper and lower jaws. The liquid solution is then used to surround the teeth. The patient must sit until the solution becomes an elastic-like solid material. The mold that is formed through this process is then sent to the lab, which will make the final product.
Patients who experienced this were often left gagging and with goop in their teeth. The iTero scanner eliminates the need for any goop or trays and leaves your mouth as clean as when the procedure began.
iTero Digital Impressions
The iTero system consists of a small wand that the assistant inserts into your mouth and moves slowly across the teeth in order to obtain the requisite image. Your mouth is scanned using the latest in optical technology, and in as little as two to three minutes, the laser renders a digitally perfect, 3D impression of your teeth and soft tissue structures. The iTero system also includes a corresponding screen that displays the information collected by the iTero wand. The iTero screen provides real-time, 3D visualization of your mouth.
The iTero scanner can be used for any orthodontic treatment at our Los Angeles and Orange County orthodontic offices, including self-ligating metal and clear braces and Invisalign® clear aligners. These digital scans are much more precise and accurate than traditional molds and impressions. Digital impression technology also increases efficiency, both during the appointment for the impressions, and in the delivery time it takes to get your appliances made. That means you can be on your way to a new smile faster!
The iTero scanner is an easier, faster, more effective way for Dr. Lili to get the digital impressions she needs to create a treatment plan and begin your orthodontic journey.
